PREORDER! New Tutorial "Sculpting a Moveable Bust"

This is my latest tutorial that I am currently working on. It is "How to Sculpt a Moveable Bust"! The photos shown are from two of my dolls which have been previously sold. A "moveable bust" can be finished just as a bust or as a complete doll! This tutorial will be a first in the series, as I continue on with these each tutorial will cover parts to make a finished "Cabinet Doll" with clay arm, hands, legs and feet and a cloth body. Many artists make and sell doll busts, and they have really become quite popular. Why not make one a little better than the rest? Make one that moves with a ball and socket joint between the head and breast-plate. It gives the collector options for posing thier bust.
I cover all aspects of sculpting a beautiful head, and then making a breast-plate to pose the head in. I will also cover in detail how to make that head and breast plate into a mounted bust sculpture. If you choose you can hold on to the head and breast plate and continue on to make a finished doll (to be shown in future tutorials).

Started work on a new BJD!

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all handling the summer well!  It has been hot here!  I am very happy to have started on a new project a gofun bjd.  This one is "Alice", she will be 18 inches tall when finished.  I am trying to finish her within in the next month so she will be ready for the Dollery's fall show.  I would also like to sculpt a Mad Hatter to accompany her, but I don't know if I will have the time...so right now I will just concentrate on Alice.  As of today I have her head fully sculpted and finished.  This is the way it looks sculpted in the stone clay.  After I have the rest of the body done I will coat it in several layers of gofun.  Gofun is a pigment made of ground oyster shell...when it is applied in thin layers to a doll it looks like the finest porcelain.  This is a very time consuming process, that is why I say I don't think I will have time to make a Mad Hatter as well.  I will post pictures here on my blog as I work.  Stay cool everyone!

Now Available for Pre-Order! New "Sculpting a BJD in Polymer Clay: Advanced Techniques" CD Tutorial

Sculpting a BJD in Polymer Clay: Advanced Techniques

This is my latest CD tutorial! It is a continuation form my popular "Sculpting an OOAK BJD using Polymer Clay" tutorial. If you have not purchased the first one, it covers all the basics. I will not be repeating anything other than the clay formula from the first tutorial. So, this CD will cover all NEW information, including a new sculpting chart!  http://www.etsy.com/listing/99172732/new-sculpting-a-bjd-in-polymer-clay

Link to the first tutorial: http://www.etsy.com/listing/69802551/tutorial-cd-sculpting-an-ooak-bjd-using

This all new tutorial covers how to sculpt a more complex, professional looking BJD. Covered in this CD: How to make advanced joints, including "double joints", like those on resin BJD Dolls; My techniques on how to acheive a completely smooth and blemish free surface on your doll. (This is very important if you are going to sell your doll and want to get top dollar, or if you plan on later molding your creation and casting it in either resin or porcelain. *NOTE* I AM NOT COVERING HOW TO MAKE MOLDS OR CASTING YOUR CREATION IN THIS TUTORIAL.) I will be writing a full length book later on this year which will go in depth on BJD making, including making molds. Also included in this tutorial, face-ups and body blushing using pastels and heat set paints!

The doll being sculpted in this tutorial is still being finished, and I am finishing up writing this tutorial as I post this. THIS LISTING IS FOR PRE-ORDERS ONLY. THE TUTORIAL CDS WILL NOT BE MAILED UNTIL AFTER MAY 15, 2012.

I am listing this now for those of you who have contacted me and are anxious to continue on in your BJD making! Those tutorials which are ordered prior to May 15, have top-priority shipping status and will be mailed in the order to which I recieved your pre-order. I will email you and let you know when you can expect to recieve your tutorial CD. This order will depend heavily on how many orders I recieve on pre-order. Thank you again for your interest and support of my work!

Getting it finished--New tutorial available soon!

Hello all-
So sorry it has been awhile since I have posted. I have had quite a few set backs lately, first I fell and injured my left shoulder (luckily I am right handed). Then the whole family came down with the stomach flu...first my kids went the rounds...one after another, my husband and then finally it hit me! So, the sculpt I have been working on got a little way-layed...as did my newest tutorial which is based on this latest sculpture. But, good news...I am over it and back to work! I am hoping to have all completed in the next couple of weeks, as I am very behind on things.
I think you all will be pleased with this new BJD tutorial. It takes up from where the first BJD tutorial ended and continues on to more detailed finishing techniques and advanced jointing, as well as some extras for you...for a truely professional FINISHED project. I have much more to teach you all about the bjd making process (including making molds, casting in resin, etc.)...but you will have to wait until my full length book comes out. I am still hoping to finish writing it this year, but most likely publication will end up being in 2013. Time just seems to be racing by me lately. Cheers...Happy Spring All! ;-)

New OOAK BJD in the works!

I am pleased to finally be sculpting my first doll of 2012! Since moving this last fall I have not had a space set up which I could work. I have set up a "make do" studio in a corner of my bedroom. It will work for now until I get the carriage house on our property remodeled into my studio.
This latest BJD is a one of a kind sculpted of polymer clay. She is a first for me, in that she is the first closed eye doll I have ever made. She will be the sleeping Snow White. 14 inches high when standing, she is also the doll shown being made in my latest tutorial. "Advanced polymer BJD techniques" will be an advanced version of my previous Polymer BJD making tutorial. I will be showing more jointing techniques, including "double jointing", as well as some extras! I am hoping to have this new tutorial finished by early February!
As I work on this doll I will post more wip pics here! Stay tuned!
