  Hello everyone!  I have been so neglectful to this blog and I appologise, but I have been so busy!  I am so pleased to FINALLY introduce my line of porcealin BJDS!  I sculpt my original dolls from polymer (same as before) but now I am making plaster molds from the originals and casting them in porcelain!

  My daughter has named her "Rosie" but you can call her what you like.  This is a customizable doll...you choose the porcelain color I cast her in, wig color and facial expression and colors to make her a unique doll all YOUR own!  This is an open edition meaning there is no set limit to production, however given you make the choices and coloring she will still be an OOAK (one of a kind).  The doll will come to you nude but with a wig of your choice.  Costume options will be available for purchase in my Etsy store.

Turtle Child Studio is MOVING!

My husband and I have just bought a new house with a beautiful new studio in my backyard (picture above)...just for me! My move in date is October 1!  This new studio not only has plenty of work space for me, but a large area I plan on using for a classroom!  The first class I am planning for this coming November, I will announce the dates soon.  It will be a week long, and I will cover all aspects of sculpting ball joint dolls, from start to finish!  I will only have room for 6 students.  I will be checking on hotel rates over the next weeks and will announce all info regarding the live class here on my blog.  If you are interested in this seminar or upcoming seminars, please email me turtlechildstudio@gmail.com.   I will offer the bjd class again in the spring.  I am also planning on offering mold-making and porcelain bjd classes in the near future.

Started work on a new BJD!

Hi everyone! 
  I hope you are all handling the summer well!  It has been hot here!  I am very happy to have started on a new project a gofun bjd.  This one is "Alice", she will be 18 inches tall when finished.  I am trying to finish her within in the next month so she will be ready for the Dollery's fall show.  I would also like to sculpt a Mad Hatter to accompany her, but I don't know if I will have the time...so right now I will just concentrate on Alice.  As of today I have her head fully sculpted and finished.  This is the way it looks sculpted in the stone clay.  After I have the rest of the body done I will coat it in several layers of gofun.  Gofun is a pigment made of ground oyster shell...when it is applied in thin layers to a doll it looks like the finest porcelain.  This is a very time consuming process, that is why I say I don't think I will have time to make a Mad Hatter as well.  I will post pictures here on my blog as I work.  Stay cool everyone!

  It has been a busy Spring for me and it is shaping up into a busy Summer too!  I will not be attending any shows this year, as I am busy filling orders and working on a new proto-type for Resin BJDs!  The new resin BJDs will most likely be released this fall or winter, as it is a long process between prototype and finished resin bjd!  I am excited about being able to offer resin editions of my dolls,  I will post pictures here on my blog of the prototype and master-cast as I get further into the process.

Monday, Monday...

  Happy Monday to you all!  It is a beautiful Spring morning here in Montana, and I am feeling good and up in my studio once again.  I am anxious to be finishing up my latest BJD and the subject for my latest tutorial.  I worked all day yesterday and have some new work in progress pictures I thought I would share with you!  Once again here is the link to the latest turorial CD which shows the making of this doll! Snow White is almost finished!

 I am finally finishing up my Snow White bjd this week!  All I have left as of this post is, her left leg, hands and feet.  Finishing up this doll also means my latest tutorial "Sculpting a BJD in Polymer Clay, Advanced Techniques" will be finished and for sale in my Etsy store.  I will start taking pre-orders, next Saturday, May 5.  I will announce the listing here on my blog and also on both the Turtle Child Studio facebook page and my own personal facebook page.  I have been working hard on her and also on the tutorial.  The tutorial will cover advanced techniques of finishing, several advanced joints (including double joints), and professionally painting your BJD and face-ups!  Stay tuned...not much longer now! ;-)

My latest BJD doll is finished now!

Here is my latest BJD. Rag Doll is 11 inches tall and has 14 points of articulation. She is a one-of-a-kind and made of polymer. She is available exclusively through the DOLLERY. Polymer BJD

For the last week I have been working on another ball joint doll! I have been making this doll to accompany my other BJD, "Alice" for the IDEX show being held in Orlando, Florida next week. I had originally planned to attend this show and debut my new gofun bjd doll line. I have had to cancel my trip and not wanting to send 12 months plus worth of work on my new dolls "un-chaperoned"...I decided to make polymer bjds to send to the show. Two of my dolls will be there to represent me. My bjd "Alice" and a new doll, I am currently making called "Forgotten". Here is a sneeak preview of Forgotten's work in progress. As of tonight she is fully sculpted and ready to be painted and strung tomorrow. I will post more pictures here in the next couple of days.

You may see this work at the IDEX show January 27-30 in Orlando, Florida. My work will be in the IADR booth along with several other talented members of IADR (International Art Doll Registry). I am not yet sure of our booth number, but I will post it as soon as I know.
